City Information: Glendale, CA

About Glendale, California
Some people choose to live off the beaten path: rural America and such. Others want to live in the fastest places on earth: the Hollywoods and New Yorks. And many people want to live in a place where it happens.
What is “it”?
“It” is that indefinable quality that makes one place special and another place not. “It” is a place that attracts homeowners. “It” is like the latest fashion or the most popular car… but in real estate form.
Glendale CA is “it”. Glendale CA embodies the “it” factor. It has a colorful background, a rich cast of characters, and offers enviable modern living for those who call Glendale home.
Glendale sits on the eastern part of the San Fernando Valley right where San Fernando and the San Gabriel Valley intersect. In 1798 the Spanish government granted some land to Jose Maria Verdugo. In 1860, his grandson built a building which still stands, the oldest building in the area.
In 1884 Glendale was formed and in 1920 it had grown enough to annex another nearby town, Tropico. Although it has enjoyed steady growth through the years, it experienced a significant surge in growth in the years following 1970 and today Glendale boasts a number of noted companies within its geographic boundaries.
If it’s food you love, Nestle Inc. and the International House of Pancakes has world headquarters in Glendale. If it’s entertainment you are interested in, Dreamworks SKG, the entertainment company formed by Steven Spielberg, Jeffery Katzenburg, and David Geffen has offices there.
The city has also become a magnet for famous people – not surprising given its proximity to Los Angeles. There’s the “regular” famous people that you see in movies and TV shows today, like Eva Mendes, Edward Furlong, and even Robert Englund, the actor who plays Freddy Kreuger from the Nightmare on Elm Street series (Don’t worry, he’s a regular guy).
Along with that cast of actors are others that may surprise you: One family moved to Glendale many years ago with a seven year old son… who later grew up to become screen legend John Wayne. And Laura Ingalls, the writer and character in her semi-autobiographical stories Little House on the Prairie became the first woman to fly solo across the US, completing her record-making 1930 flight in Glendale. And Charles Lindberg took off from Glendale piloting the maiden voyage of a cross country airline service.
Glendale is a fun city because it’s surprising… the “it” factor is strong here and people from here make a name for themselves. Do you want to live in a place where “it” happens? Glendale CA is the place!
