Chatsworth, CA: Schools and Living
While many cities in the greater Los Angeles area are named from Spanish influences, Chatsworth was named after Chatsworth House, a home of the Duke of Devonshire in England. Although it draws its name from England, everything else about Chatsworth is purely American!
Chatsworth may have one of the most famous high schools in the world, or at least the entertainment world. Not only has it produced such graduates as Val Kilmer, Kirk Cameron, and Mare Winningham, but its drama department was also thanked publicly by Kevin Spacey in his acceptance speech upon collecting his first Oscar (for his role as Verbal Kint in The Usual Suspects).
This is no guarantee that sending your children there will win them an Oscar, but it gives a sense of how established and reputable the area schools have become. Those who wish to have selective input into the type of schooling their children receive have a decent selection of private schools to choose from in addition to the fine provisions of the LAUSD (Los Angeles Unified School District). Chatsworth Hills Academy is one such private school.
But there is more to Chatsworth than going to school. As recently as the eighties, this was actually largely a rural district of Los Angeles, California, located as it is with mountains and the Porter Ranch to the north. The Chatsworth Reservoir has not become a great area to spy for wildlife since it was emptied by the city of LA and moved to protect the animals that now call it home. Chatsworth CA has a number of hiking trails that are interspersed with unique rock formations and there continue to be a number of horse-owners living in the area.
This is not just rural country anymore however. Once considered “the horse capital of the world,” Chatsworth has now become the hub for many businesses including technological industries and other small businesses.
The lifestyle in Chatsworth is really a fine blend of suburban and rural living. Prospective home-buyers may be able to see anything from condominiums to ranches or luxury homes to small apartments when they hit the Chatsworth real estate market.
In fact, the geography on which Chatsworth sits lends itself to small pockets of areas that are industrially-focused or residentially focused, ensuring that industrial zones rarely encroach onto residential neighborhoods.
Wherever home-owners land, they will never be far from either hiking trails or shopping; restaurants or farms. With Los Angeles just a hop, skip and a jump down the Ronald Reagan and Golden State Freeways there will always be the opportunity for a good dose of the city as well.
With famous schools, all the amenities, and that San Fernando country feel on the edge of Greater LA, Chatsworth CA is a fine destination for people who want to live near and experience a bit of the country and a bit of the city as well. It is an excellent place for those moving to LA who are not sure if they want the whole dose of the hustle and bustle just quite yet.
